Proclaiming themselves "The Most Powerful Japanese Girlie Pop Rock", the band Scandal comprises four high school girls from Osaka: Haruna Ono (vocals, guitar), Tomomi Ogawa (bass, vocals), Mami Sasazaki (guitar, vocals), and Rina Suzuki (drums, vocals). The four girls came together through a shared love of music and soon formed Scandal, building up a catalog while still in school. The band soon started getting offers from clubs around Osaka and Kyoto, and started gigging regularly and building a rabid fan base that would religiously attend every show. The band's buzz started to spread beyond the Kansai area, and in August 2007, Scandal was invited to play at a special event at Club Asia, a well-known venue in Shibuya, ground zero for Japan's youth culture. They soon signed with the Tower Records label, and released their first indie single on March 3, 2008, coinciding with the traditional Girl's Day holiday. The record blew past forecasts and sold out rapidly. To preserve the buzz and improve availability, the record was quickly offered on the iTunes Music Store in both Japan and the United States. Two more CD singles were released shortly thereafter. The same year, Scandal joined the "Japan Nite US Tour 2008", followed by two shows at the "Sakura-Con 2008" convention. Scandal's music has been featured in a range of popular media: their first single, "Space Ranger", is the opening to Kyoto Sports Weekly, and their second single, "Koi Moyo" is the main theme of the movie Corazon de Melon. Their song, "Start", is the theme song for Star Ocean: Second Evolution and is available on the game's soundtrack. More recently, "Daydream" was featured on a tribute album to the legendary Judy and Mary, and their song "Shojo S" has been announced as the tenth opening of the anime series " Bleach". Big fans of anime and manga, the band wanted to be represented in animated form, turning each member into an animated character. The animated Scandal is featured on Japanese Television and on a series of promotional videos on the band's website. Late in 2008, the band signed to Sony Music Entertainment, completing their move to the big time.
