Bassist Haruhiko Higuchi and drummer Masumi Sakurai originally were members of the band Gorilla. In 2005, the band broke up so Higuchi and Sakurai decided to re-form as Moja with Higuchi taking over as lead singer. They decided to keep the band as a bass-drum duo and haven't looked back since. Judging from their success, it was a change for the better.

Moja won the Japanese leg of the 2007 Global Battle of the Bands (GBOB) competing in the UK against representatives of 24 countries in the final round of the tournament and placing 3rd (they eventually lost to winner Boys in A Band)

Their debut album "Moja" was released on February 18th 2009 and achieved a landmark in their short career on August 8th 2009 when they performed on the Marine Stage of Summer Sonic.
