Pop punk favorites Ketchup Mania formed in Nagoya in October 1999 with three main members (Hiro, Dai, and Fanfan) and one supporting member (Maashii), playing shows in and around Nagoya. In January 2000, guitarist Katoosan joined the group, and Ketchup Mania released their first demo tape, a three track set entitled Sun Set Glow. They released another demo shortly thereafter, and in April 2000 were included on the compilation album Destruction. Their song "Hime no Omoi" garnered a bit of local buzz, and took Grand Prix honors for a month running on ZIP-FM's Rokkudi Vision Z program in Nagoya. Later that year at a ZIP-FM sponsored event, Ketchup Mania found itself as the opening act for several major label bands including Love Psychedelico, Cymbals, and Ereki Hachimachi. The following year, their first mini-album was released on Twister Records. Fanfan left the band in December 2001, and Dai followed in April 2002 (later rejoining). Despite the member shakeups, Ketchup Mania was voted #1 on the music program BREAK GATE in December 2002, gaining them exposure to an ever-widening audience. They released their next mini-album on Groovie Drunker, a sub label of KOGA Records, in 2003, and the next year released another mini-album on the same imprint. In 2003 Ketchup Mania added new member Wani as drummer. The band moved to Tokyo in 2005, and were joined by bassist Yosei. After a third mini-album on Groovie Drunker in July 2005, the band was signed to Universal Music and released their first major single in December of that year. They were given their first full-length album in February 2006 titled Greetings From Tokyo. Ketchup Mania continued to slog it out for several more years, including some overseas exposure at Anican in 2007, and a slot at South by Southwest in 2008, but announced they were throwing in the towel in May 2009.
