Created in 2008, Girl Next Door is a J-Pop band formed consisting of Chisa (vocals), Daisuke Suzuki (piano, composer), and Yuji Inoue (guitar). Chisa, who simply goes by her given name, was originally a dancer based in the Kansai area when she caught the eye of the people at Avex, who encouraged her to get training in Tokyo. She entered the Avex Artist Academy in 2005 on a scholarship, and there met Daisuke Suzuki, a former member of the group day after tomorrow, at the time working as a writer mainly contributing tracks for other artists. After recording several demo tracks together, the two caught the attention of Avex CEO Max Matsuura. After adding sudio guitar whiz Yuji Inoue, the group got to work on their debut, slated for September 2008, before which the Avex hype engine began building buzz through a series of advance exposure. The video for their first single, "Guzen no Kakuritsu", which was released on September 3, 2008, was filmed in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. The single reached #3 on the Oricon charts and has since sold about 60,000 copies. Their 2nd single, "Drive away" / "Shiawase no Jyoken" was released on October 8, 2008. The video for this single was shot in Birmingham High School, Los Angeles. The single reached #3 on the Oricon charts and has since sold about 33,000 copies. Their 3rd single, "Jonetsu no Daisho" / "ESCAPE" was released on November 19, 2008, accompanied by a video shot in Prague, Czech Republic. The single reached #3 on the Oricon charts and has since sold about 31,000 copies. After releasing 3 singles in 3 months, they released their self-titled debut album in December 2008. All the tracks on the album had commercial tie-ins, a first in the history of the Japanese music industry. The album debuted at #3 on the Oricon charts and has since sold more than 200,000 copies.
