Buffalo Daughter | Profile

Buffalo Daughter is a three member group consisting of Sugar Yoshinaga, Yumiko Ohno and Moog Yamamoto, often augmented by a drummer and other guests, playing synthesizer and sample driven music influenced by German progressive rock and garnished with various other genres. Before putting together Buffalo Daughter, Yoshinaga and Ohno played together in a band called Havanna Exotica. Buffalo Daughter’s 1994 debut EP Shaggy Head Dressers was released on the Cardinal label, a spin-off of the popular indies magazine Beikoku Ongaku. The group soon picked-up an international following, and in1996 released Captain Vapour Athletes on the Beastie Boys’ Grand Royal label, and made their first US tour. After three albums with Grand Royal the band moved to LA based Emperor Norton, and later V2. Buffalo Daughter often uses an impressive light show and their popular live show has helped lead the band to more international shows, as well as an elevated status in Japan. This versatile group has collaborated with the French group Air, with former Plastic Hajime Tachibana, done a soundtrack to a video game, and had their music used in a Listerine commercial.
