The 5,6,7,8's | Profile

The 5,6,7,8’s formed in Tokyo in 1986. Since then the line-up has changed many times, with the constants being singer/ guitarist Ronnie “Yoshiko” Fujiyama, and drummer Sachiko. The band embraces retro American hot rod culture and a rockabilly breed of garage rock that shares ascetics with the Cramps. The band has a maintained a strong cult following since their incept, but has never catered to the mainstream. They play a mixture of cover versions and originals, always fraught with style and attitude. Despite only releasing albums on indie labels, and selling in modest quantities, they have fans all over the world and have toured internationally since 1992. Through their extensive touring they are in touch with many like-minded bands and labels, and their tracks can be found on many compilations. In Japan most of their releases are on the Osaka based indie Time Bomb. The band was given a high profile appearance in Quentin Tarintino’s “Kill Bill” movie in 2002, which brought them to a wide audience, but they remain fiercely independent.
